Masy joins forces with the eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN Programme to Advance Self-Sufficiency

In collaboration with ASEAN Foundation and Maybank Foundation, social enterprise Masy Consultants aims to promote health and sanitation for the Philippines’ most vulnerable communities via WASH initiatives.

Following on a year-long process of innovation, pitching, and advocating for the Philippines' most vulnerable communities, Masy Consultants, a youth-led social enterprise committed to making a meaningful difference by uplifting others in STEM & WASH, has raised the bar higher for what young people can do to lead change across Southeast Asia.

After a rigorous application and interview process, Masy was selected as a Civil Society Organization (CSO) for ASEAN Foundation, Maybank, and Maybank Foundation’s eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN (EYAA) programme. This is a huge milestone that will work to benefit underprivileged Cebu communities, functioning as an empathetic hybrid COVID-19 response in tackling the region’s most complex on-the-ground Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) challenges.

Masy Consultants working with at-risk communities at the grassroots to raise WASH awareness and collaborate with local leaders in designing effective long-term solutions

Pulling through at a 3.6% acceptance rate, this unique opportunity future-proofs small-to-medium enterprises like Masy Consultants and the young leaders of ASEAN, allowing them to co-create long-term positive impacts within their communities. From fast-track access to competitive impact funding, to partnerships with leading Changemakers across the ASEAN region, Masy’s presence in the EYAA will function as a holistic approach to advancing better WASH behaviours across underdeveloped parts of Cebu. Ultimately, this will serve to facilitate the community’s realisation of their solutions and strengthen self-sufficiency beyond traditional aid programmes.

The hybrid project implementation is expected to roll out between early October to December 2021, alongside ASEAN capacity building workshops.

Masy Consultants, EYAA and a diverse group of Changemakers from across the ASEAN region are challenging the status quo, proving that young people are capable of driving the improvement of social infrastructure. In spite of the societal perceived limitations, as well as the international restrictions faced during a global pandemic, the team aims to provide an adaptive and innovative hybrid approach to STEM & WASH community development.

Their inspiring work has caught the eyes of local industry leaders in the Philippines and throughout the ASEAN region, and highlights the importance of promoting better hygiene practices, which is deeply interconnected to ending the fight against COVID-19, alongside disrupting cycles of aid dependencies and inequality amidst ongoing outbreaks in vulnerable communities.

The eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN is a programme by Maybank Foundation and ASEAN Foundation that aims to galvanise social volunteering among young people in the region. The programme brings together a talented group of ASEAN youth to deliver impactful community projects across the region in collaboration with local civil society organisations.
